Celebrate the Freedom To…
We celebrate freedom on the Fourth of July, but freedom for whom?
As I wrote about last month for Juneteenth, our country has yet to achieve the promise of freedom for all. We continue to push forward on our journey toward true freedom.
That journey seems particularly challenging right now. Our values of diversity and equity are being directly attacked by a politicization that denies the truth of who we are as a nation.
As we navigate this charged time, it’s easy to feel like we’re supposed to step back or stay silent. But here’s the truth: the law hasn’t changed. And neither should our commitment to equity.
That is why — for our twin freedom celebrations of Juneteenth and the Fourth of July — we launched the Freedom To campaign. This campaign is a simple, powerful way for individuals and organizations to affirm what they still have the freedom to do.
What is it? A digital campaign grounded in inclusion, values, and truth. You can create and share a custom graphic that says:
[Your Name or Organization] has the freedom to [your value-driven action]
How to Participate: It takes less than 10 minutes. Just visit http://bit.ly/thefreedomto and:
- Personalize your Freedom To graphic using Canva (no account needed)
- Download it
- Share it on LinkedIn or other platforms over the next two weeks
I’ve included some examples from the campaign to inspire you to share what you have the Freedom To do.
No matter what anyone says — we all have the freedom to speak. To assemble. To build. To belong. Let’s not forget that this Fourth of July. Let’s celebrate all of our freedoms and the hard-fought victories that gave them to us.
